The UTMB surplus equipment auction is under way and will run online through July 6. The online auction is open to the public. Registration is free and the auction operates 24 hours a day.

Senior Seaside Supper Club

Dr. Ken Fujise, director of UTMB Cardiology, will present “Eat less, move more and live strong” at the July meeting of the supper club.

The supper club meets from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. July 14 in the community room at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, 4700 Broadway. The supper is $10 per person, and the nonrefundable payment must be made no later than July 8.

Gotta Dance

A free children’s dance class will be offered by the University of Texas Community Outreach program beginning July 5.

Public Meeting On Building Demolition

A public meeting was held on campus regarding the proposed demolition of the Surgical Research Building and Old Shriners Burn Institute as part of a comprehensive plan to rebuild portions of the UTMB campus.

“Shaping our future in biomedical research” was the focus of a symposium hosted by the department of biochemistry and molecular biology. Dr. Raymond N. DuBois Jr., provost and executive vice president at The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, was the keynote speaker, following an introduction by UTMB President Dr. David L. Callender. Several researchers were on hand to discuss future research.

“Behavioral genetics and the punishment of crime” was the topic of Dr. Paul S. Appelbaum, professor of psychiatry and medicine and law director in the division of law, ethics and psychiatry at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York.
