On Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 5, schools, business areas, administrative offices, and most of UTMB’s clinics will close for the day. John Sealy Hospital and the Trauma Center never close. Two pediatric urgent care clinics will be open from noon to 8 p.m. They are located at 2027 61st St. in Galveston and at 3023 Marina Bay Dr., #101 (next to CVS) in League City. Global health
Dr. A. Clinton White Jr. has been named executive director of the Coordinating Center for Global Health, which will serve as a central focus in the organization of the multiple efforts in global health across the world. White came to UTMB in 2007 to head the division of infectious diseases, and he developed and directs the Galveston Global Health Consortium, funded by the National Institutes of Health.

“Health reform, cost containment, and physicians' professional responsibility” was the topic of Dr. Howard Brody, medical ethicist and director of the Institute for the Medical Humanities.
“Eye disease for pediatricians” was the topic of Dr. Thomas J. Jennings, pediatric ophthalmologist and assistant professor of ophthalmology.
Yogesh Wairkar, assistant professor of neurology, spoke on identifying the mechanisms of synapse regulation for the UTMB Mitchell Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases.
