The first phase of demolition of the old Jennie Sealy and Shriner Burns Hospitals began with the construction of fencing around the work area. The sidewalks on the north side of Texas Avenue and on the west side of University Boulevard, both north of the Plaza Parking Garage, are closed. The sidewalks on the south side of Texas Avenue and the east side of University Boulevard will remain open at this time.
There will be periodic sidewalk closures along Harborside Drive heading east and along 4th Street heading south to repair existing light fixtures and foundations through Sept. 7. Signage will be in place to direct pedestrian flow and flagmen will assist with traffic control. The work is progressive and signage will be moved as the work advances.
