UTMB will officially break ground this month on the Clinical Services Wing, a new facility to house core medical services such as the pharmacy, kitchen, clinical equipment services, sterile processing, maintenance and logistics. These critical functions were severely damaged three years ago when Hurricane Ike caused more than $1 billion in damages to the Galveston campus. The Clinical Services Wing, expected to be completed in 2015, will connect and provide services to John Sealy Hospital through the Waverley Smith Pavilion. It will also connect services and staff to John Sealy Annex and to the new Jennie Sealy Hospital.

Approximately 60,000 square feet of clinical space will return to full operation in early 2012 as a major
component of the Primary Care Pavilion on Harborside Drive re-opens. Clinics returning to the renovated site
include: Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Orthopedics, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Radiology and Student and
Employee Health. The Primary Care Pavilion was heavily damaged in Hurricane Ike, and crews have been
working to renovate the facility to be re-opened for patients. The remaining 40 percent of the building will be renovated in the future and will be used for administrative and faculty offices.
