Mary Schlobohm (pictured left) is the November Support Staff Professional Star of the Month. She was recognized for her willingness to share her outstanding photography talent with the SSP Publicity committee by serving as a photographer. She also co-chairs the Professionalism/Education committee and is always willing and happy to help when asked for assistance.
On Oct. 29, the community was invited to drop off unneeded and expired prescription medications for safe disposal at UTMB's Specialty Care Center at Victory Lakes as part of a national effort aimed at reducing the potential for abuse and safeguarding the environment.
The event collected 462 pounds of medications, making it the most successful event in the greater-Houston area.
Dr. Marilyn Marx (left) completed her term as president of the Association of Women Surgeons. Of the 21 presidents during the organization’s 30-year history, two have been medical branch surgical faculty.
Dr. Linda Phillips (right) served as president from 1992-94.

Congratulations to Sarah Nagy, student in the School of Nursing, for being the recipient of the UTMB Excellence in Professionalism Award for the month of October. Nagy was nominated for the award by Dr. Cherry Beckworth, who said in her nomination, "Sarah is in the BSN program at UTMB Health. She has been active in many areas to further advance UTMB and its mission. She is in the Student Nurses Association and serves as historian. She is also active in the Butterfly Project. She is a SON Student Ambassador and gives back to the SON in various service activities throughout the year."
The award is given each month to recognize a student who has shown exemplary professionalism within the UTMB community.
