After nearly 40 years in the same location in the Administration Building, the UTMB Police Department
recently relocated to the second floor of Rebecca Sealy, Suite 2.712. The new headquarters location is modern, spaciousand located strategically across the hall from the Parking and Bursar’s Offices so that employees can easily access those services and Badging and Police, as well.

The new space is arranged and equipped to meet national standards in policing, including a line-up room, men’s and women’s locker rooms, a detainee processing area and a state-of-the-art interview room with audiovisual equipment and technology.

“We are very proud of our new home,” said Thomas E.Engells, UTMB Chief of Police. “We now have the modern
headquarters facility needed to support progressive policing.”

Engells also noted the promotion of three long-time police officers to the rank of sergeant. UTMB’s newest police sergeants (pictured left to right) include: Shawn Carr, a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley and a Nonviolent Crisis Intervention instructor for the department; J.B. Holmes, a highly experienced officer with many years of previous service with the Fort Bend Independent School District Police;and Christopher Fultz, a Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) instructor who also designed a geographic information system to target crime in specific areas near the university.

“These three individuals have contributed to the department at a very high level in very different and unique ways,” Chief Engells remarked. “We are proud of their accomplishments and are pleased to have them in official leadership roles now."

Four sergeants were also recently promoted to the rank of lieutenant in the UTMB Police Department. They are: Raymond Cooper, Anthony Curry, Ryan Erwin and David De Ore.
