Young entrepreneur, Diego Coronel, 6, of Bolivia, a patient at Shriners Hospital for Children, helped kick off National Lemonade Day on Friday, May 5 with a lemonade stand in the Main Street Hallway of John Sealy Hospital — raising $1,294.56. 

All proceeds go to support the Ronald McDonald House of Galveston which provides a "home away from home" for the children who are receiving medical treatment at UTMB and Shriners Burns Hospital.

Lemonade Day is a national event with programs in 39 cities all around the country. Through building and operating lemonade stands children experience small business practice by participating in planning, teamwork, making a profit, marketing, and giving back to the community.

This year marks the first year that Galveston took a share in this fast-growing program, with more than 350 children through the Galveston School District setting up their lemonade stands on May 6, all across the island. Thanks to the the Galveston Lemonade Day committee, the Galveston Chamber of Commerce, and the Ronald McDonald House-Galveston Board for offering this event to the Galveston community.
