A recent event provided a perfect opportunity for two great organizations to work together to get the word out about breast cancer and the importance of regular screenings.

The new Tanger Outlets in Texas City hosted a “PinkSTYLE Grand Opening Weekend” on October 19-21. The event helped raise dollars to support breast cancer initiatives in the community through UTMB’s Breast Health and Imaging Center. 

“Tanger is committed to making a difference in the communities we serve," said Aimee Braswell, Tanger Outlets General Manager. The Grand Opening also coincided with Tanger Outlets’ 19th Annual PinkSTYLE Breast Cancer awareness program that benefits local and national breast cancer programs.

During the ribbon cutting, Dr. David Callender, UTMB president, said “UTMB is honored to partner with Tanger Outlets to help promote breast health awareness and the quest for a cure for breast cancer.” He added, “I’d like to thank Tanger for helping to promote breast health awareness through the PinkSTYLE Gala, and for their generous commitment which will benefit UTMB Health’s breast cancer research, prevention and treatment programs.”   
 
The grand opening featured a number of highlights:
  • Nearly $6,000 was raised as part of a raffle at the opening gala. In addition, Tanger President and CEO Steve Tanger and John Klein, president of Premium Outlets, presented Dr. Callender with a check for $25,000 to promote breast health awareness and the quest for a cure for breast cancer.
  • More than 50 UTMB Health volunteers offered up 251 community outreach hours during the weekend, providing breast cancer and screening information at a booth set up at the outlet for the weekend. 
  • The mobile mammography van was on site at the Tanger Outlet during opening weekend. UTMB’s Breast Imaging team completed eight reduced-cost mammograms during the weekend, and another 40 were scheduled.
