    UTMB’s MyWellbeing Department

  • What is the mission of the MyWellbeing Department?
    Through the use of our Wellbeing model, we work to better guide employees to become their best selves. We also serve as the conduit between employees and existing and evolving Wellbeing resources. 
  • How is the Wellness Office approaching this mission?

    Wellbeing can be approached in many ways: from discipline specific, to work-unit focused to domain focused.  UTMB is focusing on strengthening all three approaches and our Wellbeing survey results will be guiding how we prioritize.  The domain model we have created is a blend of Standford’s Professional Fulfillment Modal and the Surgeon General Mental Health and Wellbeing in the workplace model.  Please click here for a description of our model. 

    The Faculty Scholars Program is modeled after the Scholars in Healing and Scholars in Leading Programs launched January 2023 through September 2024.  This Faculty Scholars Program is converting both programs into a single program.   This program will have the same in-person time commitment of two afternoons per month along with a more organized and independent home component. are two-year trainings that involve an afternoon of training approximately every other week. Inherent in the training is building a new culture that integrates the Institute of Healthcare Improvement’s fourth aim: Improving Workforce Satisfaction while also offering valuable career development opportunities to participants.

  • Who is eligible to apply?
    • Full-time, active faculty in all schools that hold the title of assistant, associate, or full professor.
    • Employed by UTMB for at least 1 year and at least 3 years post training.
  • Where will sessions take place?
    • Sessions will rotate between Galveston and League City Campus
  • What is the commitment and am I given protected time to attend?
    • It is a 1-year time commitment with two session per month on Thursday afternoons for one year.  The timing of the Thursdays is influenced by holidays and other events and does not always work out to be every other week.
    • Scholars will be actively involved in re-designing and facilitating the Meaning and Purpose Dinner Program based upon feedback from the first offering.
    • Commitment to continued engagement for 1 year upon completion with options:
        • Peer mentoring or support
        • Engagement in Wellbeing initiatives
  • What are the expectations/requirements for participants?
    1. 80% in person attendance required
    2. Faculty are all expected to obtain coverage for all duties and cell phone responsiveness during session times.
  • How will I benefit and what is expected of program graduates?
    • You will be part of the solution for UTMB developing and incorporating a much needed fourth mission: Improving Workforce Satisfaction
    • You will continue to have a voice on this campus by participating in your choice post- program committees.
    • Participation will contribute to your promotion applications.
    • Your projects will have a direct impact on your workplace and Department/Division
    • The program offers significant skill development.
    • The program offers significant networking and community building.
    • Facilitating in Meaning and Purpose dinners will build your network and community and support the integration of professional fulfillment to a much broader audience.
    • You will meet leaders across campus to engage in dialogue leadership and career development.
