Alopecia areata

Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disease that causes a localized loss of hair in round or oval areas without any visible inflammation of the skin in hair-bearing areas, most commonly the scalp. Alopecia totalis is the complete loss of all scalp hair and eyebrows. Alopecia universalis is the loss of all body hair. A few short hairs may be present in the bald spot that taper and lose pigment as they approach the scalp known as "exclamation hairs."
