How would you best go about obtaining this medication from him?

  1. Write a prescription for Brian's mother to take to the out patient pharmacy in her home town.

  2. Write a prescription and fax it to the Case Manager who will locate a convenient pharmacy for the family to get prescriptions.

  3. (Correct) Write a prescription for Brian's mother to take to the university outpatient pharmacy to be filled.

This is the most practical interim solution.  Be sure to write for a quantity sufficient to last until Brian returns to the university for his follow-up appointment.

You can also make a copy of the formula for Brian's mother to take to her local pharmacy to see if they can compound the prescription.  If the need persists for special compounded medications and there are no local pharmacies which can mix the medications, there are some large pharmacies who will fill compounded medications by mail.  An internet search can help you locate a nearby pharmacy that offers compounding, but Medicaid may not cover charges for compounding without pre-certification.
