Preparing for your Visit

Making an Appointment

Knowing where to get started with Breast Healtcare can sometimes be confusing and overwhelming. Here is information or the numbers to call depending on your needs:

  • Do I need a Mammogram?
  • I am over 40 and I need a screening Mammogram
  • I had questionable results on a screening Mammogram, now I need a diagnostic Mammogram
  • I had positive reading on my diagnostic Mammogram or I have been told that I do need to consult with a breast health specialist
    • If you have a positive reading on your diagnostic mammogram, our Patient Navigator will contact you to schedule your appointment with a breast health specialist/surgeon.
    • If you did not receive your mammogram at UTMB Heath, call the access center at (800) 917-8906 to schedule an appointment with a breast health specialist.

Mammogram and Breast Ultrasounds

Please plan to arrive at the center 15 minutes early for your appointment. If your prior mammogram or breast ultrasound were not performed at UTMB, you will need to make arrangements to obtain your films and reports, which will be needed for comparison.

Since you will need to put on a gown, we recommend that you wear a two-piece outfit for your comfort. PLEASE DO NOT wear any deodorant, powder or lotion under your arms or around your breasts. Bring a list of the places and dates of mammograms, breast ultrasounds, biopsies, or other breast treatments that you may have had.

If self-referring, please bring the name, address, and phone number of your doctor or other healthcare provider.
