Cardiac Rehab

What is Cardiac Rehab?

A healthy, active life after a cardiac event is possible with the help of The University of Texas Medical Branch Cardiac Rehabilitation services. UTMB has carefully planned programs to help people with heart disease or those with a high risk of heart disease.

The UTMB Cardiac Rehabilitation program is certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). A specialized team will work with you to create a personalized treatment plan, including evaluation and instruction on physical activity, nutrition, stress management, and other health related areas.

Cardiac rehabilitation is an important part of the treatment of your specific heart problem. If you have one of the following diagnoses you may be eligible to participate:

  • Heart attack
  • Stable angina
  • Coronary artery angioplasty or stents
  • Open heart surgery such as coronary bypass or valve surgery
  • Heart failure
  • Heart transplant
