Accreditation for John Sealy School of Medicine to continue for 8 more years

John Sealy School of Medicine has full accreditation for another eight years, University of Texas Medical Branch officials learned earlier this month.

The Liaison Committee on Medical Education notified the school that it would continue full accreditation of the medical education program for an eight-year term.

The notification came after many months of preparation, said Dr. Jeffrey L. Susman, dean ad interim at John Sealy School of Medicine.  A multi-day site visit in January was also part of the accreditation process.

Dr. Majka Woods, vice dean of academic affairs for the school, served as the accreditation leader.

“I am tremendously proud of the fine work of our faculty, staff and students — led by Dr. Woods —  in achieving full eight-year accreditation,” Susman said. “Their hard work, dedication to student success, and improvement of our educational program are exemplary. My congratulations to an exceptional team!”

The school has a routine status report due Aug. 15, 2024 to address a few specific areas of the survey, a normal part of the process, Susman said.

The next full survey visit at the school will be in 2030 or 2031.
