About the UTMB Living site
UTMB Living emerged out of a desire to help future UTMB employees and trainees (including students) find the perfect community to call home. This collaborative project was orchestrated between
UTMB Marketing & Communications and Human Resources, and relied on the time, talent and passion of staff from throughout the organization.
The main campus of the University of Texas Medical Branch is on an island about a half mile off the upper coast of Texas. With more than 30 miles of beaches, a historic waterfront and downtown, and lots of open spaces, it’s a great place for our academic medical center’s home. On the mainland and stretching more than halfway to Houston are a network of clinics. Approximately two-thirds of our workforce lives on the island and in the mainland communities that surround these clinics; the other third of our workforce lives throughout the state, working in educational outreach, regional clinics or in correctional care.
This site will hopefully serve as a useful guide to the many great communities, schools and housing options available to those who join us to work or learn and their families.
Disclaimer
While we worked to be as inclusive as possible, at best we’ve provided a taste of life in these cities and towns. Not every possible community or region is included, and none are completely or thoroughly covered (especially outside the core campus areas of Galveston/Clear Lake/Houston). We’ve provided links to hopefully serve as productive launching points for additional research.
