Regional Location
South Houston/Galveston

The regional location of UTMB offers an affordable small city feel with quick access to the fourth largest city in the United States. This includes a strong economy rooted in the Energy and Healthcare industries as well as Aerospace. With numerous professional sports affiliations, world class art districts, and an endless variety of cuisine options, this location is the ideal environment for those with a variety of educational, economic, and recreational interests. Further, there are two major international airports and a cruise ship terminal near by for families to visit or access for quick trips to unwind.

As one crosses the Causeway 45 minutes south of Houston they are typically greeted with pelicans flying in the sky and palm trees blowing in the island breeze. This introduces the island ambiance. One's time in Galveston is not complete without experiencing a jog on the historic seawall or a beach day with friends to relax. A Galveston Bucket List includes the Art Walk in The Strand District, a production at the Grand Opera House, and attendance at a Mardi Gras Ball. The rich cultural history of the island coupled with its unique beach town living provides a unique experience for a fellowship year. A family friendly atmosphere within and around the Department of Anesthesiology is an absolute strength of this region and the departmental camaraderie is immediately evident upon indoctrination into the UTMB family.
