Public Transit and Ridesharing

Galveston Island and Campus

UTMB Health and the City of Galveston work together to offer transit service to meet the needs of the university's Galveston-based employees, students, visitors and patients.

UTMB employees, students and retirees qualify for free rides by showing their UTMB identification cards. Patients who show proof of scheduled appointments, who are being admitted to a UTMB hospital, or making a pharmacy visit also ride at no cost. Those who accompany these patients to offer assistance or children under 18 accompanied by a patient also ride for free. Fixed-route buses and Dial-a-Ride (DART) services run Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m.-11:30 p.m. and Sundays from 8 a.m.-7 p.m.

DART participants also ride for free. DART is a curb-to-curb service for those persons who are unable, due to disability, to use the regular fixed route service. DART services require 24-hour notice. To obtain more information and an application for DART service, call Island Transit at (409) 797-3909. Once an application is approved, a passenger guide will be sent to you.
