Project 5: Innovative, High-Throughput Multiplex Neutralization Assay for Arbovirus DiagnosisProject Leader: Pei-Yong Shi (UTMB)

Investigators: P. Shi, S. Weaver, G. Kubin

Serological diagnosis represents a major method to diagnose arboviruses infections, such as Zika, dengue, West Nile, yellow fever, and chikungunya viruses. Neutralization tests remain the gold standard for the arbovirus serology. However, the neutralization tests require plaque assays, which can take more than a week to complete, representing a major bottleneck for current diagnosis. This project aims to improve arbovirus serological diagnosis by developing a high-throughput, multiplex neutralization assay using reporter viruses. This project will be performed in collaboration with the Texas Department of State Health Services.
