Research Project 2 (RP2): Role of Posttranscriptional Regulatory Networks in the Pathogenesis of Ebola Virus Disease

Project Lead: Mariano Garcia-Blanco, MD, PhD (University of Virginia)

RP2

This project will reveal new and underappreciated layers of host responses to EBOV infection and provide a rich data resource for the field that will lead to new hypotheses to address the molecular basis for EBOV pathogenesis.

Mariano Garcia-Blanco

Dr. Garcia-Blanco has dedicated his career to the study of posttranscriptional regulation of gene expression. Recently I have focused on two areas of high biomedical importance: (1) the regulation of alternative mRNA splicing of important immune modulators and (2) RNA–protein interactions that impact pathogenic RNA virus infections. He started his independent career at Duke University (1990-2014), went on to spend eight years at UTMB as Professor and Chair of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and since early 2023 is at the University of Virginia.
