Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 states:
"No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance."
The Role of the Title IX Office:
UTMB is committed to maintaining an environment that is safe and that supports equity in educational and professional pursuits. Sexual harassment, sexual assault, relationship violence, stalking, and retaliation subvert the mission of UTMB. The Title IX Office works to ensure all university members have a safe place free from discrimination in which to learn and serve. Any person (student, faculty or staff) who believes that discriminatory practices have been engaged in based upon gender may discuss their concerns and file informal or formal complaints of possible violations of Title IX with the UTMB Title IX Coordinator.
What to Do:
For gender discrimination, sexual harassment, relationship violence, or retaliation, contact the Title IX Coordinator 409-772-2112, or go to Rebecca Sealy 2.302.
Options for sexual assault:
|◈||Go to the Emergency Room - Even if you aren't sure you want to report, a doctor can record your injuries so you have the documentation in case you choose to go to the police or your school.|
|◈||Call Student Health and Counseling - 409-747-9508|
|◈||Call the Resource & Crisis Center - 409-763-1441|
