UTMB BSN students are back from Belize!

Through a long-standing partnership with Hillside Health Care in Belize, BSN students are gaining immersive, hands-on global health experience, fulfilling their Population Health clinical in a resource-limited setting.

Led by faculty like Ms. Christen Sadler and Dr. Zachary Carson, students assist with clinic operations, conduct health fairs, and even lead staff development sessions. In just one week, they build cross-cultural competencies that will shape the rest of their careers.

This 1-week rotation, led by UTMB School of Nursing (SON) faculty, fulfills the clinical for their Population Health course and builds future global health leaders. Students worked health fairs, explored local healing traditions, and made an impact in Punta Gorda.

“We began sending BSN students to Hillside Clinic in 2023,” shared Dr. Kathleen Murphy, Associate Dean for Global Health and Community Engagement . Only six are selected per rotation with plans to expand access across SON programs. UTMB nursing education is going global!
