The Galveston National Laboratory celebrated ten years of operation on Friday, Nov. 16th with several events on the UTMB campus.

Former Texas Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, now the U.S. Permanent Representative to NATO, sent a video of congratulations, which was played for audiences at both a VIP Luncheon and a Special Lecture featuring Dr. Ian Crozier, a physician who has treated Ebola patients in Africa and who is himself an Ebola survivor.Kay Bailey Hutchison

Senator Hutchison was a driving force in UTMB's bid to have the national laboratory built on the Galveston campus, and she also was responsible for advocating for federal funding that helped to build UTMB's International Biosafety Training Center where students and scientists train to work at high containment.

Senator Hutchison is a Galveston native and was the first female Senator from the State of Texas.
