Galveston National Lab and UTMB One Health Launch "Infectious Science" Podcast

Nov 11, 2022, 11:13 AM by Connie Holubar

UTMB and the Galveston National Lab have launched a new science podcast called Infectious Science, which can be found on the website InfectiousScience.org.

The idea behind the podcast was to share information about science research, particularly science that is found at the intersection of human health, animal health and environmental health, a concept known broadly as One Health.

Dr. Dennis Bente, a veterinarian and expert in viruses caused by ticks, Dr. Matt Dacso, a family physician and professor in UTMB's medical school and new School of Public and Population Health, and Dr. Daniele Swetnam, a researcher working on infectious diseases with an interest in environmental factors impacting virus emergence and spread, will serve as the hosts of the podcast, which can be streamed on major platforms, including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Google Podcasts.

While the venture is still brand new, with just two episodes online so far, several others have been recorded and will release soon, including Career Spotlights focusing not only on "what" scientists do but "how" they got where they are, Viral Minutes, that will introduce listeners to interesting emerging and re-emerging viruses, and Infectious Science Showcase episodes that will discuss scientific research taking place at UTMB and collaborating institutions.
