Nov 15, 2023, 14:17 PM by the Institute for Human Infections and Immunity

On a recent episode of the Infectious Science Podcast, hosts Dennis Bente, Matt Dasco and Daniele Swetnam share a fast-paced discussion about the evolution and transmission of avian flu with special guest Dr. Greg Gray, a Professor in Infectious Disease Epidemiology in the Departments of Internal Medicine (Infectious Diseases), Microbiology & Immunology, and Global Health & Emerging Diseases at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.

The episode covers a broad range of information about bird flu's impact within both the natural environment and commercial operations, as well as a discussion of how the disease can impact species outside of birds, including mammals ranging from sea lions to grizzly bears.

Listeners will come away with a wealth of knowledge about bird flu strains, how they spread, the risk to migratory bird populations and backyard chickens.
