Q: What has been your career path so far that led you to becoming an ophthalmology tech? What got you interested in this career?
A: My first job in ophthalmology was as a receptionist in 1987. It was a small, one-doctor practice, so it didn’t take long before I was learning to help the doctor and get his patients ready for him. My next move was to a large multi-doctor practice as an ophthalmic technician. I then began working on my certifications and established my love of the field. I took five years off to raise my two boys, and during that time I was teaching pre-K.

Q: How long have you been with UTMB?
A: I was very eager to get back to my field, so I started here at UTMB in 2013.

Q: What do you like about working at UTMB?
A: I have been very happy here. Our doctors are excellent at what they do, which makes me proud. The doctors, other technicians and all the staff are nice to work with. I love helping others.

Q: Where do you see your career going from here?
A: I love my job. My plan is to hopefully stay here until retirement.
