Q: What has been your career path so far that led you to becoming an ophthalmology tech? What got you interested in this career?
A: My career with UTMB began in Internal Medicine, where I was a patient service specialist. My supervisor saw my potential to learn and grow and offered me a transfer to train as an ophthalmology technician. While I had never worked in ophthalmology before, I quickly found myself amazed by the depth of knowledge and technical skills the technicians possessed. It didn’t take long for me to know that I wanted to make this my career. I worked intently to obtain my Clinical Operations Administrator certification and have recently been promoted to technician supervisor.

Q: What do you find most fulfilling about being an ophthalmology tech?
A: The most fulfilling part of being a technician is patient care. Vision is such a big part of our day-to-day life. Whether it is a simple prescription for glasses or surgery for an ocular disease, I am part of a team that works tirelessly to improve our patients’ quality of life through their vision.

Q: How long have you been with UTMB?
A:
18 years

Q: What do you like about working at UTMB?
A: I love my coworkers! We have such a great team from diverse backgrounds. Everyone is caring, compassionate and willing to help wherever they can.

Q: Where do you see your career going from here?
