For healthcare workers who often interact with patients on their most difficult days, a powerful new tool that quickly locates local resources is rolling out on UTMB websites just as the holidays roll in.
When a patient with a disability needs help with transportation to appointments, a family experiences food insecurity due to lost wages, or a spouse caregiver seeks a support group, FindHelp provides clear, detailed information about the type of nearby help available, including locations, hours and contact information.
The application pulls up resources by ZIP code and then allows users to narrow down the type of assistance required. Listings are sorted by distance, so the first results are those closest to home.
Implementing FindHelp supports UTMB’s commitment to health equity.
A search for Galveston’s 77555 ZIP code, for example, brings up 2,204 results. A user then can refine the search by selecting categories such as housing, goods, education, work, money and legal. Although many of the resource providers are well-known, others are smaller or have a niche offering.
The FindHelp service is provided at no cost to searchers and does not feature ads. UTMB subscribes to the service to help address those needs that often occur adjacent to healthcare.
When the application launches on Dec. 15, FindHelp will be accessed by staff through workspace navigators under the Social Determinants of Health screening tools, in their storyboard and under weblinks. Care mangers and social workers will see this in their specific workspace navigator as well.
