Mateen Almas serves his role as an intern in the System Optimization and Performance team at UTMB. Mateen supports the team in planning and implementing model cells to facilitate the problem solving and process improvement of various stakeholder departments at UTMB. Mateen has a background in healthcare prior to UTMB as a GP in Gastroenterology at United Christian Hospital in Lahore, Pakistan.
Mateen graduated from the University of Oradea with an M.D. and from University of Houston-Clear Lake with a dual Master of Healthcare Administration and Master of Business Administration (MHA & MBA). Mateen is a Certified Healthcare Financial Professional (CHFP) and is also certified as a Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt (LSSYB).
Fun fact: Mateen can speak more than 5 languages and spends his free time learning to master new cuisines.
Daniela Tsuruta is a Colombian-Japanese College Intern at UTMB who is broadly interested in the healthcare administration field. Her primary responsibility is to support the System Optimization & Performance team on different projects with the purpose of optimizing the operational efficiency in the facility. Daniela and her team also work closely with leaders from different departments to share knowledge on how to effectively address the elimination of waste and defining value.
Daniela is in her second year of the Master of Healthcare Administration program at the University of Houston Clear-Lake while simultaneously perusing an associate degree in nursing at San Jacinto College. She holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Houston and earned a certification from Health Care Financial Management Association (HFMA). Prior to UTMB Daniela worked in income tax preparation and IRS representation as well as a care provider.
Fun fact: Daniela brought her three cats with her from Colombia to the United States and all of them have passports!
