Medical Laboratory Professionals Week was April 23-29.
Started in 1975, Medical Laboratory Professionals Week was developed as a way to honor medical laboratory personnel, as well as create awareness about the importance of the medical laboratory profession.
The medical laboratory profession has played an increasingly vital role in the diagnosis and prevention of disease. UTMB has transformed from a one-campus operation with approximately 50 clinics to a four-campus system with over 100 clinics. Laboratory Services provides laboratory testing at all four campuses for inpatient and outpatient cases to include UTMB ambulatory and WSPP clinics, non-UTMB clinics and Texas Department of Criminal Justice and Correctional Managed Care locations.
As we continue to grow and evolve to the changing health care environment, our laboratory personnel are playing a key role in diagnostic medicine through various new artificial intelligence, robotics, automation and diagnostic management teams that are vital in the quality of laboratory testing and patient care.
Our medical laboratory professionals celebrated with this year's theme of "Saved by the Lab.”
Themed days were:
- Marvel Monday—Dress like your favorite superhero!
- Twin Tuesday—Match one of your co-workers!
- Wacky Sock Wednesday—Wear your craziest socks!
- T-shirt Thursday—Wear your blue Lab Week shirt!
- Flashback Friday—Dress up in your ‘80s/’90s gear!
