I want to share the outstanding news that our Blocker Burn Unit has successfully been re-verified by the American Burn Association.
This triannual survey involved a two-day, exhaustive review of the framework and quality and function of our program.
A summary of strengths shared by the surveyors included:
Hospital community
Leadership of the program
OR staffing and support
White board communication with therapists
Strong nursing leadership
Nursing orientation and competencies
As we seek and appreciate opportunities for improvement for us to better ourselves, the surveys suggested as follows to continue to strengthen our program:
Continue progress to return palliative care services
Improve psychologist support services for these patients
Physician extender role in the team
Cinical pharmacy included in rounding
Newly created therapy documentation tool implemented
Further encouragement of research educational enhancements
Support and encouragement of nursing
Specialty credentialling
Continued investments in the leadership team structure to support the program
We should all be proud of the phenomenal multidisciplinary team involved with the care around this complex patient population.
This program has a renowned reputation that will continue to shine for UTMB !
My thanks to the leadership of Dr. Carlos Jimenez, Dr. Steven Wolf, Jason Sheaffer and Christine Wade.
