UTMB celebrated its employees’ service milestones during Employee Service Day events on all campuses Aug. 9-11.
In his remarks at the Milestone Luncheon on Aug. 11, Dr. Timothy Harlin, executive vice president and CEO of the UTMB Health System, said:
“Twenty-five years. Thirty-five years. Forty years and beyond. … these milestones are meaningful for so many reasons. They represent dedication to this organization, to our mission, to our community and to one another.
“The contributions of the people in this room are far-reaching and innumerable, and the level of passion and compassion is immeasurable—as is our gratitude to each of you for making a long-term, often lifetime, commitment to what we do here.
“Society today seems to thrive on the quick turnaround. Everything seems to be in a constant state of transition. Longevity, despite its considerable benefits, sometimes seems to be frowned upon—especially in the workplace.
“Yes, there’s no denying the need for fresh faces in an institution as dynamic as UTMB—and we have plenty of those, a steady stream of new hires across the medical branch who bring their own ideas, expertise and enthusiasm to the mix.
“But employees who stay with us for decades … they’re the bedrock of the institution, the link from our past to our present and the bridge to our future. They’ve watched—and participated in—our evolution, they’ve helped us weather the storms and celebrate the triumphs. They are the keepers of UTMB’s history and deep institutional knowledge. And they are the teachers, the mentors, the shoulders on which the new generation of UTMB health care professionals stand.
“You are, each of you, all of these things and more. Your dedication is a testament to the excellence in service that’s achieved here and to the bonds of family that are built here.
“So it is with great gratitude that I celebrate you today and thank you. You do us proud, every day, and it’s my sincere hope that we do the same for you and that you know how deeply appreciated you are.
“Congratulations and thank you again! Here’s to many more years of working together with you as a team, as a family, to serve our community.”
