Staff at the Neonatal Intensive Care unit on the Galveston Campus celebrated NICU Awareness Month in September with special events throughout the month, including special breakfasts, a 10-day read-a-thon, a Remembrance Day candle memorial honoring lost patients, etc.
"A NICU nurse is characterized by the ability to see a fragile baby, sometimes no larger than their own hand, and not be scared, but rather focused and driven to see them through their fight and eventually be the one to place them in their mother's arms as they get set to go home."
