If a movie was ever made about Stephen Jones, Bruce Springsteen songs undoubtedly would make up the bulk of the soundtrack.
Jones, vice president, Regional Hospitals and Health System Strategy, has been a fan of ‘The Boss’ since the summer of 1984. He recalls waiting in line for 10 hours with his late father for tickets to the rock icon’s the Born in the USA tour. But Jones is quick to point out he first started listening to Springsteen’s older albums like ‘Born to Run’ and ‘Darkness on the Edge of Town.’
Now, nearly 40 years later, Jones shares how his love of The Boss’ music has stayed strong throughout every phase of his life.
“His music has spoken to me at every important milestone in my life,” says Jones, noting that he was listening to Springsteen before prom and when deciding on a college and graduate school plans.
Even as Jones’s family grew with the marriage to his wife, Yvette, and the births of his three sons Tyler, Joshua and Ethan, Springsteen’s iconic tunes were with him.
“There is a song for everything!” he says.
And Jones would know—as he’s dutifully seen Bruce Springsteen and the East Street Band during every tour since 1994.
“Seeing Bruce Springsteen more than 75 times has been amazing,” he said.
"You can go anywhere in the world, and everyone knows every word
because everyone in attendance is in some way a character in some song.”
Despite having an affinity for much of the musician’s library of work, Jones has a few songs he dubs his favorites.
“My three favorite songs that I still listen to multiple times a week are ‘Trapped,' ‘Darkness on the Edge of Town’ and ‘Backstreet,’” he says. “The ‘much younger’ me is in those songs.”
From concerts to even getting the chance to meet Springsteen once during his autobiography book tour, Jones struggles to pick just one favorite moment from his decades-long appreciation of the performer.
“There are so many memories of Yvette and me taking our boys to the shows,” he says. “Watching them sing the songs I sang at their age is amazing. We have plenty of videos and selfies that will last a lifetime.”
