How long have you worked at UTMB

14 years practicing, four years with UTMB

Why did you decide to go into anesthesiology?

Anesthesia provides me an opportunity for a unique skillset that includes pharmacology, physiology, resuscitation, communication, dedication and being detail-oriented.

What is the best part of your job?

  • The flexibility of the field. We are utilized in multiple areas of the hospital including out of OR areas, labor and delivery and endoscopy centers. Makes a good work life balance.
  • I work alongside our physician anesthesiologist colleagues to provide a positive experience during patients' most stressful times.
  • Collaborating with other aspects of the health care team (surgeons, cardiology, pulmonology) in a critical access facility such as Angleton Danbury is rewarding.

The most challenging part?

The most challenging aspect is preventing burnout. Contributing factors include the high-stress nature of the job, production pressure, long hours and call.

Anything else you would like to add?

Previously, I have worked in small community centers, large academic centers and faculty in a Nurse Anesthesia academic program. UTMB, with the regional campuses, is able to combine the small community experience with the larger academic institution.
