When did you start working at UTMB?
2012, when I started as a nurse in Labor & Delivery.
What is the best thing about your job?
Helping patients and being a part of their health journeys—whether it’s ensuring patients get their preventative health needs through their well woman exams or showing expecting parents their baby’s heartbeat for the first time.
What is the most challenging thing about your job?
Giving a patient the news they were not wanting. I find it best to explain the situation well in a calm manner and discuss all options available.
Talk about the value of the patient/provider experience and how you connect with patients.
Patients, like myself, are moms, daughters, sisters and wives. Remembering that every person has their own life experiences and health goals in mind, and building a rapport with my patients helps me work with them to define and reach their health goals.
Who are your heroes?
My mom. She worked a full-time job my entire life and was always present in my childhood. She was there for every school event and always showed tremendous support for anything I wanted to pursue.
Describe your life in six words.
B.O.I. and love this little island.
What are three words that describe you?
Kind, empathetic and a little goofy 😁
Describe your life outside of work.
Spending quality time with my family
What is your favorite:
Book: Unsure of a favorite book, but I like happy endings so I’ve been leaning toward a “rom-com” kind of genre.
Color: Green
Movie: “Just Friends” with Ryan Reynolds.
Food: Sushi
Song: I’ve been a Swiftie since high school, so likely any Taylor Swift song.
What is the coolest thing (or a fun fact) about you?
I was born at UTMB, and now I help take care of others with UTMB.
What is a dream that you want to make come true one day?
Learning how to play the piano
When have you felt the proudest?
Watching my kids grow and learn new concepts. It’s so cool seeing the lightbulb go off when they figure something out and just knowing that I am a part of that.
What is a favorite memory from childhood?
Growing up an islander and taking bike rides down the seawall or riding our long boards.
What’s the best trip you’ve ever been on?
Canada. Beautiful weather and amazing hikes.
What has been your most meaningful accomplishment so far?
Becoming a nurse practitioner in OB/GYN. I knew I loved women’s health when I became a nurse in 2012, so to continue on and now provide care at UTMB Women’s Health is a huge blessing.
