UTMB Health ranks No. 24 in latest ratings from Vizient

Period 1 (July 2023-Sept. 2023) results from the 2024 Vizient Quality and Accountability Study have been released. UTMB Health currently ranks No. 24 among the study’s 116 participating comprehensive academic medical centers.

Improvement in mortality and safety domains are key to achieving a 5-star ranking.

Period 1 showed large variation in service lines due to low volume. However, improvement in the capture of the following diagnoses is needed to accurately reflect expected mortality risk: hyponatremia, anemia, coagulopathy, renal failure, malnutrition and shock. Please document these conditions when appropriate.

We made significant improvement in CLABSI and CAUTI reduction in FY23 but are now seeing an upward trend. The best way to prevent these infections is to remove lines if no longer needed for patient care. Appropriate aseptic techniques such as hand hygiene, scrub the hub, dressing changes per guidelines and consideration for alternatives to indwelling catheters should be followed for patients with ongoing use of lines.

Thank you all for delivering Best Care to our patients.
