Balancing competing responsibilities.
Is there anything about your job that surprised/surprises you?
No. I learn something new every day which is refreshing and welcome.
Who are your heroes?
My dad’s mother, Madeliene Adde Albares. She survived significant disruptions in her family and community during WWII and the subsequent German occupation of France (as a beautiful young woman in her early 20s). Madeliene was successful in navigating a life in America with a new husband and family despite being deprived of formal education beyond elementary school.
Her resilience and grit raised four healthy children and 14 grandchildren in a loving, nurturing home. She never stopped learning. Always had a book in her hands reading about different subjects. There is so much I can share about her, but the short story is she was strong-willed, determined but very loving, caring and fiercely protective. She was a great teacher.
What is your favorite quote?
“You must become the change you wish to see in the world” —Mahatma Ghandi

Loyal, stubborn, sociable

Drive a race car!
What’s the best trip you’ve ever been on?
European tour at age 20 with my grandmother, Madeliene. She introduced me to my family in France. I am the only grandchild to have had the privilege and pleasure to meet her brother and sister (now both deceased) and their children/grandchildren. The three weeks we spent together are strong memories I will never, ever forget.
What is it that you can’t live without?
Family and friends.
