Three degree programs in UTMB's School of Nursing have been reaccredited for 10 years, the maximum time granted by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
Officially recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education as a national accreditation agency, the CCNE is an autonomous accrediting agency, contributing to the improvement of the public’s health. CCNE ensures the quality and integrity of nursing education programs.
“UTMB’s School of Nursing is committed to continuous pursuit of academic excellence by providing the best in professional nurses at the baccalaureate and higher level degrees,” said Dean Pamela G. Watson.
The reaccredited degree programs include the Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Masters of Science in Nursing and Doctor of Nursing Practice. The nursing school, in conjunction with UTMB’s Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, also offers Ph.D. degrees.
Watson added, “Reaccreditation by CCNE recognizes that our School of Nursing meets high standards for quality and integrity at all levels of nursing education.”
Celebrating its 125th anniversary, UTMB’s School of Nursing was established in 1890 as the first nursing school in Texas and the oldest nursing school in the southwest. The school graduates over 500 students annually and is ranked in the top 10 percent of the nation for online graduate nursing programs.
