UTMB Business Operations and Facilities collected donations of $500 and purchased gifts from the wish list of 10 children for Galveston County CPS Children for the holidays.  Thanks to all who participated in bringing these families some holiday cheer!

 

 


UTMB Police Officer Clifford A. Douglas has been named "UT System Police Officer of the Month" for January. Douglas, who joined the UTMB Police Department in June 2012, is a Field Training Officer. He has been an Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) instructor since 2008.  He recently was honored for rescuing a toddler trapped in the wreckage of an automobile accident along Interstate 45. Douglas, who was off duty at the time, received the "UT System Life Saving Award" by UTMB Police Chief Tom Engells in October.


The Military Medical Students Association (MMSA) held a drive to support our soldiers and hosptials in the Middle East through the Landstuhl Hospital Care Project (LHCP). The LHCP is a non-profit organization that provides comfort and relief items for military members who become sick, injured, or wounded from service in Iraq, Kuwait, and Afghanistan. Donated items are distributed to patients at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany; to field hospitals in Afghanistan and Iraq; and to VA facilities throughout the United States.

Congratulations to Bernard F. Godley, MD, PhD, MBA, FACS, professor and chairman of UTMB's Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, who recently received an MBA degree at the Executive MBA Convocation Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL.


 

Kelli Know, a contract worker who recently came to work in the UTMB Neonatology Division office at 6.104 Waverley-Smith Pavilion, honored the medical staff on Bosses Day with a poster entitled, “Our Medical Staff Means the World to Us," that depicted flags from around the world representing each faculty and fellow in the department. 

 

 

 


Susan Johnson, nurse and manager of the thoracic organ program in UTMB Transplant Services, has been certified by the American Association of Heart Failure Nurses, one of less than two dozen nurses in the state to hold such status. The AAHFN is a specialty organization dedicated to advancing nursing education, clinical practice and research to improve heart failure patient outcomes.
