Did you know?
Galveston is full of national history as well as the gateway for many who entered America
Galveston was dubbed the "Wall Street of the South" in the late 1880's
It was one of the largest cities in Texas until the 1900 storm
After the 1900 storm a new immigration station was opened on Pelican Island
Between 1906 and 1914 more than 50,000 immigrants arrived in Galveston
The original
Customs House
built in 1861 still stands at the corner of 20th and Post Office
The 1700 Strand Building currently houses UTMB's
Office of Innovation and Commercialization
and the
Galveston Economic Development Partnership
