The current Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo is giving health care workers an opportunity to test a new vaccine, rVSV-ZEBOV. It will be the first time the vaccine, which is still technically experimental, has been deployed to fight the disease during an outbreak. “The VSV vaccine clearly, without question, showed the most promise,” says UTMB’s Tom Geisbert who developed the vaccine. Testing of the vaccine has also been reported at STAT and Mother Jones.
