GALVESTON, Texas - A healthy dose of fun and educational activities for the entire family will be available at the 13th Annual Galveston County Health Fair, Saturday, March 3, in the parking lot of Academy Sports and Outdoors at 4523 Fort Crockett Blvd. in Galveston. Students from all four schools at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston organize the health fair each year to benefit residents of Galveston County.

Nearly 1,000 residents attended last year's event, a record for the health fair. More than 500 free health screenings were administered and 15 units of blood were collected from donors via the UTMB Blood Bank's donor coach.

Children and adults may take advantage of free health screenings including vision, cholesterol, diabetes and blood pressure checks, and visit more than 60 informational booths. All participants will be eligible to win a door prize including a $350 travel voucher. Entertainment includes a class on healthy cooking, YMCA Cheer and Dance Team, Boys & Girls Club Praise Dancers, Ishmael Robles Karate and a Yoga demonstration. UTMB's Hooty the Owl, Dr. Dolphin, Tooth Fairy and the UTMB Caring Clown Troupe will entertain children. The UTMB Blood Bank donor coach will be onsite. Donors must be at least 17 years old, have a photo I.D. and be in good health. Each donor will receive a gift.

Island Transit will provide free bus service to the health fair from several island locations. Service will begin at 9 a.m. with the last bus leaving at 1:30 p.m. Service locations will be at Magnolia Homes, 1601 Strand St.; Cedar Terrace, 2914 Ball St.; Wright Cuney Park, 718 41st St.; Holland House, 2810 61st St.; Oleander Homes, 5228 Broadway Blvd.; St. Vincent's House, 2817 Post Office St. and Gulf Breeze Apartments, 1211 21st St.
