GALVESTON, Texas - The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston appointed Dr. Peter M. Hoffmann as assistant vice president for clinical activities and chief medical officer effective March 1. Hoffmann will serve as a member of the executive team of hospitals and clinics administration. In addition, he will hold a faculty appointment as a clinical professor in the Department of Internal Medicine.

In his new role at UTMB, Hoffmann will provide senior leadership to facilitate medical staff practice and enhance relationships with key leaders and administrators. "Any health care institution owes its patients the very best medical care and customer service," said Hoffmann. "Our goal must be to meet those obligations."

Hoffmann comes to UTMB from the Wake Forest University School of Medicine, where he was the vice president for clinical operations, the medical director of Wake Forest University Physicians and an associate professor of medicine. He has also served as the corporate medical director for utilization management for Harvard Pilgrim Health Care. In addition to his faculty appointment at Wake Forest, he has held academic appointments at Harvard Medical School, Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Brown University Medical School.
