Galveston County Daily News (Internet / Print) 05/08/06 The city council last month asked its transportation consultant to develop a strategy to bring high-speed rail services to the island. Barry Goodman, president of The Goodman Corp., said he thought the time was right to pursue such a project. “When you look at this region, it’s amazing to me that more hasn’t happened already,” he said. In their proposal, the consultants note that on a typical weekday about 4,000 employees, patients and visitors travel from League City to the University of Texas Medical Branch. “With a coordinated effort between federal, state and local entities, and an adequate supply of rolling stock in the region, passenger rail transportation holds great promise for evacuating large numbers of persons,” the consultants write.
