WMGT-TV (NBC) Ch. 41 Macon GA (TV) 05/05/06 (no weblink available) The strong links between mom and baby don't stop there, researchers from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston have been following nearly 400 infants for at least 14 years, some of the babies were full-term, but many were born at a very low birth weight. In general, mothers who were highly affectionate, used a positive tone of voice, offered encouragement, and a good level of stimulation, had children with higher cognitive development when they started school, regardless of how much they weighed at birth. (This research has continued to be mentioned throughout the United States on TV and in Print in places such as KXAN Ch. 36 in Austin TX, WCAU Ch. 10 in Philadelphia PA, WAND Ch. 17 in Champaign IL, and WPMI Ch. 15 in Mobile AL among others.)
