UTMB is hosting its third annual Celebration of Life for cancer survivors Wednesday in League City and Galveston.
There will be music and refreshments and cancer survivors will build a human chain — a joining of hands in support and memory of those affected by cancer.
The UTMB Specialty Care Center at Victory Lakes, 2240 Gulf Freeway S., in League City, hosts the first event from 1:30 to 3 p.m. The second event takes place in Galveston from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on the lawn in front of John Sealy Hospital, Eighth and Market streets.
The Texas Transplant Center support group meets from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the Multispecialty Center at Victory Lakes Town Center, 2660 Gulf Freeway S., in League City.
This greater Houston/Galveston communitywide baby shower for prenatal support and care of women and babies, sponsored by the March of Dimes and others, will be collecting diapers, wipes, bath and baby care items, bottles, clothes and toys.
Items will be collected in Galveston from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at the Shiloh AME Church, 1310 Martin Luther King Blvd.
GI cancer support group
Dietitian Rachel DeSonier will discuss nutrition during cancer treatment and ways to improve diet to decrease risk of cancer at the next meeting of the GI cancer support group at 5:30 p.m. June 11 in Room 1.132 of the Rebecca Sealy Building, at the corner of Market and Eighth streets.

The occupational therapy and physical therapy departments at the UTMB School of Health Professions will hold two weeklong clinics this summer providing free therapy for people with neurological disease and injury, including but not limited to stroke, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease.
The clinics take place the weeks of June 24-28 and July 8-12 at the School of Health Professions, 1114 Mechanic St.

The physical therapy department in the UTMB School of Health Professions is offering a musculoskeletal clinic the weeks of June 24-28 and July 8-12.
The clinic is for patients who have problems with spine, arm or leg pain as well as problems of muscle weakness or poor balance.
