The University of Texas Medical Branch is offering a youth and school sports injury clinic from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the League City Campus, 2240 Interstate 45 S., Suite 1.211.

The medical branch’s sports medicine and rehab team is specially trained to treat a full range of sports injuries from strained and pulled muscles, twisted ankles, to knee and shoulder pain.

FOREST RECEIVES NATIONAL NURSING AWARD

Sharon Forest, associate professor in UTMB’s School of Nursing has been awarded the Novice Faculty Teaching Award by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing. The award recognizes excellence and innovation in the teaching of nursing by novice faculty at AACN schools. Forest has more than 20 years of experience in neonatal critical care nursing and has practiced as a neonatal nurse practitioner for more than 17 years.

DEMENTIA CONFERENCE IN ANGLETON

The medical branch is teaming with the Alzheimer’s Association Houston and Southeast Texas Chapter and the Brazoria County Alzheimer’s Awareness Project to present the 2017 Brazoria County Dementia Conference from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church, 130 S. Arcola St., in Angleton.

UTMB HEALTH MULTI-SHARE PLAN

The UTMB Multi-Share Plan was awarded a $1.77 million grant from the Texas Department of Insurance to continue subsidizing monthly premiums for eligible employees of enrolled employers. The grant will continue through August 2019. The MSP is a plan for small businesses (2 to 50 employees) within Galveston County. The plan is designed as a health benefit access plan and is not considered insurance.

Enrollees have access to preventive care through their UTMB assigned primary care clinic physician/specialist, outpatient ancillary care, inpatient care, pharmacy benefits and more. The provider network is UTMB physicians/hospitals within Galveston County and the UTMB Angleton campus. About 100 businesses participate in the program that provides the benefit to more than 300 employees.

ORTHOPEDICS, NEUROLOGY NOW IN FRIENDSWOOD

The medical branch has expanded specialized care for orthopedics and neurology to the Friendswood clinic located at 128 West Parkwood Avenue.
