Research by Dr. Camilo Mosquera, Dr. Hisham Marwan, Dr. Marc Toma, and Dr. Matthew Takeuchi, titled “Is CT-Detected Osteosclerosis a Reliable Predictor of Surgical Margins in Medication-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaw?”, has been published in the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) is a serious complication of antiresorptive and antiangiogenic therapies. In advanced cases, surgical resection with free tissue transfer is the standard of care, but determining adequate resection margins remains challenging. Although CT-detected osteosclerosis surrounding necrotic bone is commonly used to estimate disease extent, its correlation with histologic necrosis at surgical margins remains unclear.
