In recognition of American Heart Health Month, third-year medical student Emmanuel Ebirim helped host a community cardiovascular health initiative in Texas City that provided free screenings, preventive education, and wellness resources. A featured highlight was the screening of Soaring Mission: Peripheral Arterial Disease in the Black Community, a medical documentary created by Ebirim as a patient education tool with guidance from UTMB Vascular Surgeons Dr. Blakely, Dr. Cox, and Dr. Silva. Following the screening, UTMB Vascular Surgeon Dr. Blakely led an interactive community health discussion, offering expert insight on heart and vascular disease prevention, early detection, and treatment.
