Sponsored Research Agreements

A Sponsored Research Agreement (SRA) is a contract between UTMB and a sponsor for the purposes of funding and conducting research at UTMB. A SRA may be supported by funding from for-profit (e.g. private industry) or non-profit (state or federal government, foundations, etc) sponsors.

The Office of Technology Transfer (OTT) is responsible for the negotiation of SRAs funded solely by for-profit private industry sponsors and involves basic/animal research. The Office of Sponsored Programs (https://research.utmb.edu/home/OSP) is responsible for negotiation of SRAs where the sponsor is a non-profit entity, e.g. state or federal agency, foundation, or not-for-profit institute or alliance. The Office of Clinical Research (https://research.utmb.edu/home/office-of-clinical-research) is responsible for the negotiations of clinical trials and related agreements that involve human subjects.

OTT IP attorneys diligently review SRAs with industry in order to ensure protection of UTMB’s IP while conducting the sponsored research. OTT IP attorneys negotiate publication rights, confidentiality clauses, and other clauses in the SRA. If you are an UTMB employee and wish to enter into a SRA with a company or industry, please do not hesitate to contact Frances Streeter, JD at the Office of Technology Transfer.
